About the Tribal Area
Federally recognized tribe in New Mexico, centered on Tesuque Pueblo, spans about 26 square miles. FCC BDC records show 12 fixed providers and 4 mobile providers across roughly 540 service locations, with current availability of 100.0% at 25/3 Mbps, 100.0% at 100/20, and 0.3% at 1000/100.
Tribal Area Description
In New Mexico, Tesuque has pueblo lands managed by a federally recognized tribe. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
Tesuque is the Spanish variation of a traditional Tewa language name for “village of the narrow place of the cottonwood trees.” The beauty of the surrounding land has served as inspiration for countless native artists who craft beautiful paintings, pottery, clothing and silverwork. The Pueblo of Tesuque has existed in the foothills of the gorgeous Sangre de Cristo mountains since as early as 1200 AD. Tesuque Pueblo is also one of the smallest pueblos in the state, with a population of around 800, though the pueblo itself occupies more than 17,000 acres of land. Due to the age of the pueblo, it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
