Tribal Area Description
Mescalero is a federally recognized tribe in New Mexico with tribal lands. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
Home - Official Website of the Mescalero Apache Tribe The Mescalero Apache Tribe, located in South Central New Mexico, welcomes you to familiarize yourself with our history, traditions, and the current vision of our Tribe. The Mescalero people were nomadic hunters and gathers and roamed the Southwest. They were experts in guerrilla warfare and highly skilled horsemen. The women were known for their ability to find and prepare food from many different plant sources. The people were given the name "Mescalero" because they gathered and ate the mescal plant. It was the staple of their diets and could sustain them in good times and bad. The Mescalero Apache Tribal Government is made up of our Tribal Council, President and Vice-President. The Mescalero Apache Tribe owns and operates both Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino and Ski Apache Ski Resort, as well as other Reservation-based enterprises.
