About the Tribal Area
Walker River Reservation in Nevada is the primary broadband planning geography for this federally recognized tribe, and it spans about 528 square miles of land plus roughly 3.0 square miles of water. FCC BDC records show 9 fixed providers and 4 mobile providers across roughly 404 service locations, and current service levels of 99.8% at 25/3 Mbps, and 99.8% at 100/20.
Tribal Area Description
Tribal lands in Nevada are associated with Walker River, a federally recognized tribe. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
The Walker River Tribe shall foster the ideal of community self-determination and self-sufficiency. The population is roughly 830 community members, most of which are citizens of the Walker River Paiute Tribe. The Walker River Paiute Tribe is a collection of resources, departments, and outstanding people. The mission of the Walker River Paiute Tribe is to maintain our Agai Dicutta heritage while carrying it into the future. The Agai Dicutta Numu, Walker River Paiute Tribe, still fosters the traditional teachings of the past for the future generations. Contemporarily, the Walker River Paiute Reservation encompasses three counties: Churchill, Mineral and Lyon county. The Tribe is dedicated and committed to advocating and protecting Tribal sovereignty. North of the contemporary towns Hawthorne, NV and south of Fallon, NV on a reservation comprised of approximately 325,000 square acres that encompass portions of Mineral, Lyon and Churchill counties.
