About the Tribal Area
Grand Portage Reservation in Minnesota is the primary broadband planning geography for this federally recognized tribe, and it spans about 74 square miles of land plus roughly 1.2 square miles of water. FCC BDC records show 7 fixed providers and 3 mobile providers across roughly 498 service locations, and current service levels of 97.3% at 25/3 Mbps, 97.3% at 100/20, and 97.3% at 1000/100.
Tribal Area Description
Tribal lands in Minnesota are associated with Grand Portage, a federally recognized tribe. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
The Grand Portage Reservation Tribal Government’s governing body is the Reservation Tribal Council. The core mission of the Grand Portage Trust Lands Agency is to preserve and protect the natural resources and environment of the Grand portage Indian Reservation and the surrounding 1854 Ceded Territory for the benefit of the tribe today and seven generations from now. The Grand Portage Band is looking for enthusiastic, hard-working, dedicated employees to join our team! Whether you are looking for something part time or are ready to start your next career; Grand Portage has what you are looking for. Similar holistic thinking is manifested in the science of ecosystem health, where solutions to the world’s problems are found by addressing the interconnectedness of humans, animals, and their shared environment. Our people once inhabited a vast area around Gichigami and throughout what is today Ontario and Minnesota.
