About the Tribal Area
Coeur d'Alene Reservation in Idaho is the primary broadband planning geography for this federally recognized tribe, and it spans about 524 square miles of land plus roughly 12.6 square miles of water. FCC BDC records show 14 fixed providers and 4 mobile providers across roughly 5,982 service locations, and current service levels of 72.2% at 25/3 Mbps, 42.1% at 100/20, and 3.6% at 1000/100.
Tribal Area Description
Tribal lands in Idaho are associated with Coeur d'Alene, a federally recognized tribe. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
Coeur d'Alene Tribal families shared in the burden of war alongside the United States and her Allies. 1909 For a time the Coeur d'Alene Tribe was fortunate. 2001 The Coeur d'Alene Tribe has ownership of the lower third of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Look for Employment Opportunities across the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. The Tribe gains a reputation for being shrewd in their trading practices, gaining them the nickname of Coeur d'Alene's (Heart of the Awl). The Environmental Protection Agency rules that the tribe may set its own water-quality standards on its portion of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Grant established the original boundaries of the Coeur d'Alene Reservation, totaling more than 500,000 acres. In the tribe’s own ancient language, it is called Schitsu’umsh, meaning “Those who were found here” or “The discovered people”.
