Tribal Area Description
A federally recognized tribe in California, Big Lagoon is organized around tribal lands. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
We are a coalition of tribes mobilizing to protect tribal children, tribal families and tribal sovereignty in California and beyond. The mandate of the Task Force Report was clear: California must do better to protect tribes and tribal families, and to realize the promise of ICWA. CTFC is on a mission to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of tribal children and families which are inherent tribal governmental functions and at the core of tribal sovereignty and tribal self-governance. In 1978 Congress passed the Indian Child Welfare Act when they found that up to 1/3 of tribal children across the country had been taken and placed outside their families and communities, often without their families or tribes knowing where they were taken. Only tribes can decide what is best for the safety and well-being of their children.
