Tribal Area Description
Located in Alaska, Port Lions is a Alaska Native Village with ANVSA lands. The land base is relevant for broadband planning due to rural service coverage and middle-mile access constraints.
The Native Village of Port Lions is a sovereign government uniting our Tribal Membership through advancement of cultural pride, traditions, and socio-economic well-being. The Port Lions Traditional Tribal Council is one of the village’s governing bodies. Services provided for tribal members and our community include: health, education/pre-school, child protection, Alutiiq dance, traditional arts and crafts, welfare assistance, economic development, environmental protection, transportation, family activities and recreation, senior-citizen meals, fuel services, scholarships, and burial assistance. Located in Settlers Cove, 19 air miles west of Kodiak, the Native Village of Port Lions is home to about 200 residents. Port Lions is a community deeply rooted in ancient history, despite being a relatively new village. In Port Lions, respect is paramount, and community members support one another.
