Tribal Area Description
Located in Alaska, Barrow is a federally recognized tribe with tribal lands. Now called Utqiaġvik, it is Alaska's northernmost city and a center of Iñupiat culture and Arctic research.
The Native Village of Barrow offers assistance funded by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) to address short-term financial and personal needs. Supports educational and vocational training, childcare assistance, and workforce programs to enhance economic opportunities for tribal members. Provides operational support to all NVB departments, manages tribal council meetings, and oversees key administrative tasks to ensure smooth governance. Develops long-range transportation plans and maintains road infrastructure to support community needs, focusing on safety, housing access, and economic development. Oversees tribal membership services, including enrollment, issuing ID cards, and managing tribal council affairs to maintain strong communication and involvement with members. The Tribal Court Clerk (TCC) is responsible for corresponding with Tribal Court Judges and following up on Orders, Motions, and Judgements involving Indian Child Welfare Act matters, Adoptions, and all other matters or cases handled by the Court.
